Training

Training from complete novice to safely competent flier is free to members.

It is important to start with a model designed as a trainer - many of these come ready-built from plastic foam or balsa and ply, and may have motor, radio and servos already installed. Electric power is more popular than the traditional glow i/c engine and offers wider flying times at our field.

For training we can use the buddy box system, a form of dual control in which the instructor can take control of the flying model when necessary. At present we can link to Spektrum, Futaba, FrSky and Flysky radios - they are all good popular makes and the gear will be useful for other models later.

We check the trainee’s model to give him or her the best chance of success. After briefly explaining the basics of model flying and safety considerations, we start to fly!

For absolute beginners one of our instructors can start a training programme with the club's own electric powered trainer using the buddy box system and will advise on what to buy to make further progress.
